Turtledove’s alternate history of a century-long American civil war continues. The genre of this book is alternative history and it takes place in the time of WWII. In general, this book was another great read from Turtledove, and he continues to push forward his alternate version of WWII to it Settling Accounts: While the United States press on towards the Mississippi valley, Jake Featherston’s strategists in Richmond look for some way – any way – to slow down their inexorable advance.
Far from being morally spotless, U. Don’t expect to find too many heroic stories here. In particular, the rapid changes of scene keep the story moving along at a good pace, preventing even the slow patches from bogging the narrative down too much.
It frequently seems as if Turtledove is trying too hard to echo hrry way things played out in our own timeline—the South’s turn to rocketry, for example, is a too-obvious parallel to Germany’s development of the V Also by Harry Turtledove.
